When you find them very close to home it is ok! Besides, depending on when you live you could be risking a ticket if pulled over by police. Having open alcohol in a car in Ontario is illegal.

I've seen these since I was a little kid. Today I picked one and I'm chewing it right now. Started off tasteless, but had a nice consistency. After a few minutes I noticed a peppery taste and my throat got numb. Tomorrow I'll get back to you on any after effects (if I'm still alive)

I've heard that these have a dwarf variety, but no-ones been able/willing to show me any sources. Have you ever heard of this? I do have a specimen in my pond that is currently quite small, with leaves just about an inch in length, and stalks only about 6 inches tall, but I honestly have no clue whether this is because it's a seedling, or in incorrect conditions, or something of the like.

    • @EdibleWildFood-1

I'm not sure if there is a wild dwarf variety - but there is a common houseplant (not edible), the Syngonium Pixie Dwarf Arrowhead.

Dry some canes by hanging inside, I used my basement. When the leaves are completely dry, crumble them and you have blackberry tea. Excellent herbal, but read the cautions also. Especially good for menopausal women, but never use when pregnant. Makes a tasty tea. I had a patch that yielded gallons of berries, really huge fruits, UNTIL I STARTED KEEPING GOATS! Don't forget about juice, jam and jelly too.

Can you tell more about their growth habits? We live rsther remotely, and I'm hoping to tincture a small amount of these for pain in emergency situations. However, my colonies are rsther small. They are all across my forest, but only 1 to 7 or 8 flowers per "clump". Is it safe to take a flower or a couple from a variety of the colonies without harming their ability to come back?
